Told from the point of view of an understudy to the lead, the musical takes the listener through a range of emotions as the understudy grapples with her role. Nervous energy at the audition morphs into disappointment and self questioning at casting, embarrassment and anger in rehearsals, and finally triumph in performance as the role proves to be essential.
